The studio

Six people, one long table, and a wall for pinning up proofs.

Ines Wren and Tomas Ferro started the studio in 2014. We work for businesses and public services that people visit in person, and we take on about eight projects a year.

How we work

Every project has one of the founders on it from the first meeting to the last. Dele, our producer, sends a short update every Friday: what was done, what comes next and how much of the budget is used.

We show work at full size. A logo is judged on a box or a sign, not in the middle of a white slide, so our presentations are mostly printed and pinned up, here or at your premises.

What we take on

We are a good fit for identity, packaging and signage projects for organisations with a physical place: shops, producers, transport, libraries, museums and studios. We are not a good fit for campaigns, social media management or projects that need a large digital team; we are happy to recommend studios that are.

Where we are

The studio is on the third floor of a former department store on Westminster Street, a five-minute walk from Kennedy Plaza. Visits are by appointment.

How a project runs

  1. Brief

Weeks 1 to 2. We visit, collect what you use today and write the brief with you. It lists every item the project covers, so the fee is fixed before design starts.

  2. Strategy

Weeks 2 to 4. Names, audiences and priorities. A short written recommendation you can share with your board or partners.

  3. Design routes

Weeks 4 to 8. Two or three routes, shown at full size on the real things: a box, a sign, a hull, a home page.

  4. Refine and test

Weeks 8 to 11. One route developed and tested with your staff and customers, on paper mock-ups before anything is made.

  5. Hand over

Weeks 11 to 14. Guidelines, templates, print and fabrication files, and a check on site or on press.

Who you will work with

  • Ines Wren

    Founder, creative director

Ines started the studio in 2014 after eight years designing packaging for food producers. She leads strategy and naming, and writes most of our proposals.

  • Tomas Ferro

    Founder, design director

Tomas trained as a sign writer before studying graphic design. He runs our signage and wayfinding work and draws the custom lettering.

  • Priya Lal

    Senior designer, packaging

Priya looks after packaging and print production: dielines, paper stocks, press checks and the conversations with printers.

  • Jonah Okafor

    Designer, digital

Jonah designs the websites and digital guidelines that go with our identities, and builds the prototypes clients test with their staff.

  • Marta Silva

    Designer, type and illustration

Marta draws pictograms, maps and illustration systems. She joined in 2021 from a transport authority’s in-house team.

  • Dele Brooks

    Producer

Dele plans every project week by week, books fabricators and printers, and keeps the budget sheet that clients see each Friday.
